ARIA Academy Zoom Class – Workshop on Setting

October 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Class title: Workshop on Setting

Date and Time: Wednesday October 23, 2024 at 7 pm via Zoom

Class Description:

Setting – Does Place Add to the Narrative?  Do writers have fun with setting or dread that – Ugh!

The workshop will provide a focus on setting and how to balance ‘place’ with the action of the narrative.  How does setting and historical context add to the story? Does it?

Does Setting become another character – recognizable to readers?  Workshop will take a critical look at some infamous and not so known settings by writers we all know and some that surprisingly use setting to layer the work.

Instructor Bio:

Jeanne K Cosmos (Boston Chapter Co-Chair) Delegate, Facilitator of NWU Women’s Committee) jeannecosmos@gmail.com

As a social activist, writing is a critical piece of that sensibility, which has been an integral part of my authentic self since childhood. I am Adjunct Faculty at Mass Bay Community College and a Visiting Lecturer at Northeastern University, teaching undergraduates not only writing, but critical thinking and independent thought. Teaching is a second career, after over 20 years as both an Assistant DA and Criminal Defense Attorney, Cambridge, MA. Being in the Criminal Justice system led to my creative writing at Goddard College, where I matriculated with my MFA in 2011. My murder mystery, Murder by the Beautiful Charles, launched in December 2021.
