Barbara Ann Whitman

Barbara Ann Whitman is a seasoned social worker with experience as a child abuse and neglect investigator. She has worked professionally with hundreds of foster families. While her first novel reflects that aspect of her background, her writing falls across many genres. Her career has transcended generations of diverse individuals and families, from newborn to adolescents to geriatric. Her writing has been published in all eight Association of Rhode Island Authors Anthologies Barb’s experience with disabled adults who live independently in the community while facing the daily challenges of mental health and addiction provided deep background for her most recent 2023 anthology story, From Darkness into Light: Eddie’s Story.

She has also been a Sunday School teacher, a Youth group Leader, a parenting instructor, a Big Sister and a Girl Scout Leader. She has served on the board of directors at Big Sisters of RI, the Old Fiddlers Club of RI, St Thomas Episcopal church, Greenville and Gaits of Harmony, a therapeutic riding program. Her other interests include photography, antiques, camping, dancing, guitar/fiddle and the beach. She enjoys mentoring young writers, speaking to book clubs and helps facilitate a local writer’s group.
